Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We are Hiring More Staff

Our main goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society becomes safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a probation officer, you will be responsible for conditionally released clients and clients sentenced to probation who are under supervision. The probation service also oversees intensive supervision with electronic monitoring, known as an electronic tag, and community service. The work within probation largely consists of investigative work, conducting risk and needs assessments, and establishing plans for execution.

As a probation officer, you will actively participate in influencing work directed at clients, including structured conversations based on CBT, motivating participation in program activities, and assisting in release preparations for clients incarcerated in prison. Your tasks will also include conducting personal investigations and providing opinions to the court, as well as suggesting appropriate penalties.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good self-awareness. You have a good understanding of how people absorb knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages according to the recipient's conditions. In your professional practice, you demonstrate good judgment and integrity. As a probation officer, you need to have good collaboration skills and be able to communicate clearly. You should also have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires.

You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree (at least at the bachelor's level), preferably in behavioral science, law, social work, or social sciences, or another academic degree combined with experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
  • Current experience in case management within the public sector.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
  • A valid driver's license (B).

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Experience in corrections
  • Current and well-rated work experience in social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social work.
  • Experience in investigative work.
  • Experience in execution planning.
  • Current experience in working with CBT-based interventions.
  • Experience in working with MI (Motivational Interviewing).
  • Relevant language skills.

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. To work with us, you need to undergo a security clearance in accordance with the Security Protection Act. For this position, a security clearance interview will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. During the security clearance, you will be investigated as a person, your background, and your relationships from a security perspective. You will receive more information about the security clearance during your employment interview.
